FACT

That White Gel Bubble

With hydrocolloids, there's a simple yet powerful sign of healing: the white gel bubble. When a blister is deroofed, hydrocolloid blister plasters go to work. These unique dressings, made of exudate-absorbent hydrophilic particles on the inside, bound to a hydrophobic polymer on the outside, absorb the blister's fluid and transform it into a distinctive white-ish bubble. This bubble is a clear indication that a blister is on the mend. It's a visual affirmation that the skin is regenerating beneath the protective cover of the hydrocolloid dressing.

COMMON MISTAKES

How to Use Hydrocolloids Properly

To use hydrocolloid blister dressings effectively, remember the key rule: apply them only to deroofed blisters with a weepy, raw base, not those with an intact or torn roof. Hydrocolloids, under brands such as Compeed, Band-Aid Advanced Healing, and BlisterPod, should be seen as treatments, not preventatives.
