QUESTION

How to Deal With Friction?

Nearly everyone misunderstands friction blisters? Most people think blisters are caused by rubbing, but the real culprit is actually shear. The confusion comes from the two different meanings of the word “friction”: one means rubbing, the other means the force resisting rubbing. When it comes to blisters, it’s the friction force (the grip between your skin, sock, and shoe) combined with repetitive bone movement that leads to damaging shear within the skin — not rubbing alone.

ENGO Blister Patches

Real blister prevention starts with reducing shear, not just managing moisture or heat. That’s where ENGO Blister Patches come in!

Unlike bandages or tapes that stick to the skin, ENGO patches adhere to footwear, creating a low-friction surface that allows the skin surface to move in sync with the underlying bone at an earlier moment with each step. That's what reduces the stretching and tearing under the skin surface—the real cause of friction blisters.
